earlier this spring I was sitting and having my tea when an image flashed through my brain of a series of large paintings. This painting was the first to flash. Black Butte under dusk, hovering over the stretch of sisters like a mother stands over her child. I took note, but thought “I don’t have anywhere to show such a large painting series until next year.”

The next day I was invited to show work at The Barn, a building crafted and filled by some of the most intentional artisans in the area. It felt perfect.

This painting is about finding an anchor, a home to be light in, a place where you are guarded carefully as you sleep. We talk a lot about nervous system regulations in this day and age, and this is my visual note on the internal strength of quiet, compassion, mothering and safety that it takes to ease into the gentle joys this life has to offer.
