Listened to the entirety of The Depth of Winter by Craig Johnson on this one, burned up my Spotify audiobook hours like chaff to the wind. I have been pouring through the Longmire saga as fast as my little ears will carry me. It is nice to steep in stories about fervency and courage and unbridled resolve, all things I want more of in my life. I am always finding myself white knuckling a vision, and more so, a way of life, that can be perpetuated: often held back by cowardice, excuses, but still trying to hold fast for … something, I’m not always quite sure what. I think that is my draw to the west, to the desert, to art, to things that are exposed and pushed to their limits, always honest and raw and unnerving and relieving.
Anyhow. This piece is about the abundance of things in this world that are good and yet untamed: hard work, sweet friends, the wind in a canyon, hand-grown food, rich soil, deep trust, things that are here now but may not always be, the joy of holding each other close, the poignancy of solitude. And whatever else it might mean, I leave to the eyes of the viewer.
